Platform briefing 06

Platform changes alter what a clipping campaign must measure and deliver.

Short-form specifications are only one part of the job. Counting rules, discovery surfaces, disclosure controls and publishing formats also change, so a 2026 clipping brief should name the platform rule it depends on and the date it was checked.

01

YouTube

Separate raw Shorts views from engaged views

02

Instagram

Use trial distribution as a test, not proof

03

Facebook

Plan for a Reels-first video publishing flow

01

YouTube changed the meaning of a Shorts view

Since 31 March 2025, a Shorts view counts when a Short starts or replays, with no minimum watch-time requirement. The former measure is called engaged views. A campaign should therefore state whether eligible delivery uses public views, engaged views, a platform export or another agreed source. Raw counts across YouTube, Instagram and TikTok are not interchangeable.

02

Longer Shorts add a rights check

YouTube allows square or vertical Shorts up to three minutes, but a one-to-three-minute Short with an active third-party Content ID claim may be blocked globally. Music and publisher campaigns need a length-specific rights check before production, not after upload.

03

Instagram trial distribution is an experiment

Trial Reels can show a Reel to non-followers first. That makes them useful for testing an angle before wider distribution, but the test is not a guaranteed reach product. Record which account, creative version, date and platform signal informed the next decision.

04

Facebook is simplifying video publishing

Meta announced that new Facebook videos will be shared as Reels as the rollout reaches profiles and Pages. Campaign delivery should not rely on an old distinction between feed video and Reel without checking the current publishing interface and page eligibility.

05

Turn platform news into acceptance criteria

For every deliverable write the aspect ratio, caption and safe-zone rule, disclosure requirement, account, publishing owner, measurement source and reporting window. Log the source URL and review date so a later platform change can be traced instead of silently changing campaign terms.
